After a few more single releases, Astral Skulls morphed into a 4 piece in and the upcoming album will be the first to feature live bass and drums. While the project started in Brisbane, the band is now based in Melbourne.

The best new album of new original material in about a decade from probably my favorite active hometown heroes. And I'm saying the stuff over that time has been really good too. Heavy stoner-blues psych-metal garage-noise jams on the massive NerdLore topics of our era: Conan, , The Dope, Soylent Green, Mind Flayers and homonculi.

Although the previous album had backed away from the abyss of avant-electro-industrial "sonic miasma," MVII was widely hailed as a return to Blut Aus Nord's Black Metal roots (90% avg rating on Encyclopædia Metallum reviews). Truly a massive, excellent double-album epic - ranging from really sweet quiet sections to explosive pummelling.

For anyone who isn't familiar with the band, they put out a self-released album last year that received heaps of praise from several indie band websites as well as from yours truly who listed their debut album, Why There Are Mountains as the 11 th best album of the year. Their sound is very unique with wailing vocals and some serious noise.

Feb 28,  · The album is fantastic, and must be listened several times to allow total assimilation of the music that it contains, such is the richness of the arrangements. It opens with “Madoka's Lament” () – an emotionally strong lullaby that introduces Darkyra’s amazing voice and delicate sounds of Japanese music, assuring that this band has.
